About Therapy
What is psychotherapy?
-
As defined by the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario, psychotherapy is primarily a talk-based therapy aimed at improving and maintaining mental health and well-being. It involves a collaborative effort between the Registered Psychotherapist (RP) and the client to bring about positive changes in thinking, feeling, behavior, and social functioning.
Is psychotherapy confidential?
-
Yes. Your information is kept secure and confidential. We strictly adhere to the Personal Health Information Protection Act (2004), ensuring that all personal health information is confidential.
What will we discuss in the 15-minute consultation?
-
The consultation is an opportunity for you and your therapist to see if you are a good fit. You may discuss what you are seeking help with, your past therapy experiences, and ask questions about their training, experience, way of working and the therapy process. The therapist will address any questions you may have.
How long is a therapy session?
-
Regular Sessions last 50 minutes. We also offer 75 and 100-minute sessions. Please ask your therapists if you require an extended session.
How many sessions will I need?
-
The number of sessions required can vary greatly depending on your specific needs, the issues you're facing, and other factors. Your therapist will discuss and work with you to determine the most appropriate approach for your needs.
What happens in the first session of therapy?
-
Your first session is an opportunity to build a therapeutic relationship. It's all about understanding your experiences, what brought you to therapy, and what you'd like to change in your life.
What are the benefits of psychotherapy and who can benefit from it?
-
Psychotherapy offers the benefits of improved mental health, enhanced coping skills, better relationships, increased self-awareness, emotional regulation, conflict resolution, stress reduction, empowerment, an enhanced quality of life, and lasting well-being.
